The upturn in the UK economy has been a real boon for Irish sawmills, many of which regard their closest neighbour as the key export destination for their products. So much so that, for Glennon Brothers, for example, there is little differentiation in market terms.
“We believe the sawn timber market has consolidated into a 'British Isles' market," said Mike Glennon, Glennon Brothers' joint managing director. Glennon Brothers welcomes the announcement by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney, that Coillte will focus on its core activities in forestry. At a ceremony on Sunday the 1st of July, Glennon Brothers joint managing director, Mike Glennon presented Mr. Jean Louis Camici, of PBM Import, with a piece of Irish bog oak sculpture, to mark this occasion.
